Restatement is a cutting-edge site that leads lay people through making sense of legal documents and creating them easily, without lawyers. It takes a coder’s approach to the law, tackling a contract or other document full of legalese, and making it structured and machine-readable.
My role was to design user interfaces and experience, as well as visual design elements, that would give users clarity about what the tool could offer them and how to effectively use it. I designed the site’s logo, landing page, and workflow.
The Restatement research project was funded by Knight Foundation’s Prototype Fund. By making legal documents machine readable, innovators could develop advanced applications to improve transparency in the law, lower costs to accessing and understanding legal text, and permit greater competition in the marketplace for legal services.
