Hello Visa is an online service that aims to streamline the immigration processes for people who want to move forward with their legal status in the States. The project won a first place at the Start-Up Weekend Education Hackathon.
Hello Visa provides a triage tool for the user to discover the possible legal paths. Then it provides user tools to navigate (smart checklists) and manage the process (automating the form filling, and storing). We positioned Hello Visa as the Turbotax of immigration.
In this project, I was the only designer on the hackathon team. Having co-created the initial concept, I worked with the developer to create a simple proof-of-concept. I also helped the team leader to prepare the presentation for the pitch.
Hello Visa resonated with the jury members and broader hackathon participants. By simplifying the process, and using clean professional design language, this concept differentiated itself from the rest of the hackathon concepts.
After this initial Startup Weekend hackathon, I then continued work on the concept at a subsequent hackathon at Stanford d.school on Making Immigration More User-Friendly. At this hackathon, my team further developed Hello Visa into a more robust design.
